When hosting a large event, you can never be too prepared. From corporate events, commercial television productions, and large construction sites to hosting sporting events, festivals, concerts, street fairs, and everything in between, you need to be prepared in the event of an emergency. You need Event First Aid.
Onsite safety management provided by a certified professional safety officer and sets your event up for success from start to finish. So if you’re getting ready to host an event and want to stop any potential hazards before they cause an accident, here’s what you need to know.
What is a Safety Officer?
A safety officer is a qualified, trained professional dedicated to ensuring your event remains incident free from start to finish. These individuals are trained to identify hazards, which help prevent incidents before they occur. Not only does this minimize the potential for accidents, but safety officers also work to minimize the potential for personal injuries and property damage. Additionally, safety officers maintain the experience and training credentials to ensure rapid assessment and emergency response by the emergency services in the event of an incident or accident during your event.
Why does it make sense to have on-site safety and medical staff?
Knowing your safety officer has considered all the potential risks and hazards prior to your event affords your organization the peace of mind that comes with knowing your attendees are in a safe environment. However, medical emergencies can (and will) happen. Whether it’s heat stroke at a concert, an injury during the big game, or a medical condition in the stands, in the event of a medical emergency, minutes count.
Safety officers are trained in initial emergency response and first aid. When it comes to a medical emergency, a few minutes can mean the difference between life and death. Having professional, on-site safety officers can reduce initial emergency response times and save lives in the event of a medical emergency.
Who staffs events?
With the help of a safety officer, you can host your event knowing that your staff and guests will be in the best of hands. At HSS, our team of safety officers includes paramedics, EMTs, physicians, and registered nurses. All of our safety officers are qualified to anticipate a variety of possible issues during your particular event. All of our safety officers are trained to DCAS, Highfield & Health, and Safety Executive recognized standards. Additionally, your safety officer will provide advice on how best to staff and manage the safety and medical side of your event in line with current health and safety guidelines. If your event requires additional medical support, we can help with that too!
What happens during a medical emergency?
Unless otherwise specified, your team of safety officers will be in full uniform and maintain a highly visible presence during your event. This will make it easy for your guests to seek their help in the event of an emergency or to address any general concerns an attendee might have. In the event of a medical emergency, safety officers are trained to make the decision as to whether or not emergency/ambulatory services are needed. If additional medical assistance is required they will immediately get help from the ambulance services if they are on site or ensure the emergency services are called and stay with the casualty until they arrive on the scene. These individuals are trained to manage any incidents or illnesses during your event.
At HSS, we are dedicated to making your next big event a success through event safety preparation and on-site medical preparedness.
