When there is a medical emergency, many who are at the scene feel helpless and do not know what to do aside from calling paramedics. The first thing that happens is that we feel shocked with what is happening and then we panic. We may want to do something to help but without proper training, how can you help and not cause more damage in the process? With BLS training courses, you will know exactly what to do until paramedics arrive and the victim can be taken to the nearest hospital. Each citizen should know that it is crucial that proper first aid is administered to the victim before paramedics arrive. More lives are saved because of this.
There is no telling when a co-worker is going to have a medical emergency or a loved one while you are on a trip or just relaxing inside your house. When or if it happens, your training will kick in. It will keep your head cool, your hands steady, and you will be performing what was taught to you.
What should you expect in a BLS training?
In basic life support training, you will be given a BLS training manual and be trained to provide emergency measures to a victim who may be having cardiac arrest, choking, or have suddenly collapsed. Administering of drugs as well as invasive procedures are not to be expected in this kind of training. You will be taught the ABCs of prehospital emergency care. That would be:
- Airway patency
When there is a case of a person having cardiac arrest or drowning, it is crucial that the respiratory tract is clear and that the blood is able to circulate properly. You will be taught rescue techniques for people of different age groups. Children and infants are handled differently from adults because they are more fragile.
Who can have take advantage of BLS training?
Everybody is welcome to do basic life support training; even kids. However, it is mandatory for some professions to have a certificate on this course in order to be qualified. Teachers, caregivers, fire fighters, police officers, and day care providers are some professions that need to have this certificate. In their line of work, the chances of them encountering medical emergencies are higher compared to those who work in a company building.
